Teeth Cleaning

Preventative Dentistry

At every dental check-up, your teeth will be cleaned using ultrasonics to disrupt and remove plaque from above and below the gumline. Our professionals will keep you comfortable during this cleaning, or what we call a prophylaxis.

Patients experiencing more advanced bone and gum disease require a deep cleaning or scaling and root planing (SRP’s).

DIODE LASERS

As the premier Houston laser dentist, our professionals are trained to use diode lasers to reduce bloodstream susceptible bacteria and to promote healing of your gums.

Lastly, your teeth are polished to brighten your beautiful smile, leaving you feeling refreshed and looking great.

DENTAL CHECKUPS

The American Dental Association recommends you see us at least twice each year for a checkup. At your checkup, we will inspect your soft tissues for oral cancer, periodontal disease, and other problems. Dr. Patel will also look at each tooth in your mouth to assess problems like tooth decay or cracks, as well as old dental work. Ultimately, your dentist is checking for problems that you might not see or feel.

Problems like:

  • Early signs of decay
  • Any other oral health problems found

If any dental problems are found, we can often reduce your potential for large dental problems. For instance, left untreated, a small cavity can grow to destroy an entire tooth and spread to surrounding teeth. A cracked tooth can cause pain or break off and create additional problems.

Advanced gum disease is the primary cause of tooth loss for American adults, and oral cancer causes more than 7500 deaths each year. Caught and treated early, these diseases can be controlled.

If you have not scheduled a checkup lately, be sure to call us now to make your appointment! Children should visit the dentist within six months of their first tooth erupting and should maintain visits every six months.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I SEE THE DENTIST?

Twice yearly appointments work well for most people; however, there are some people who may need to be seen more often. Such people include those who have:

  • Gum disease
  • Family members with a history of plaque build-up or cavities
  • A weakened immune system (the body’s own ability to fight off infections and diseases)
  • Experienced certain life events — particularly those that cause stress or illness. Under these circumstances, changes in the mouth or an infection could occur.
